First Pilot: Nicaragua
Climate Edge is excited to present our first pilot project! We are working in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, in partnership with CLAC (Coordinadora Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Comercio Justo) and Fairtrade International.
At its most basic level this 6 month collaborative project is allowing us to test the tools which we have developed. However, even more important than this is the invaluable opportunity to explore, alongside these organisations, how our technology may be implemented to have the greatest impact on farm development and understanding. Even after just the first week we have been privileged enough to meet a number of progressive and forward thinking producers who have expanded our understanding of how our tools may benefit farmer communities.
It is clear that producers and local organisations place great importance on being able to gather and analyse data at larger scales and at greater resolution. The lack of information regarding links between productivity and the environment has been highlighted repeatedly by farmers, technical agents and cooperative managers alike. We have had an extremely positive response to both the data-loggers which we have developed and our ultimate goal of directly providing farmers with farm data thereby ensuring that they can make better informed, personalised decisions.
The first five data-loggers are being installed on farms associated with the cooperative COMPRACOM and the second five data-loggers are being implemented in partnership with Soppexcca.
Look out for our future blogs to continue following the story of this project!
